  • Joris Ghysels /TIER, Maastricht University, the Netherlands/ is invited to the seminar series  hosted by the Institute of Economics, Centre for Economic and Regional Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The event is held on 23rd of February 2017 in Budapest, title of the lecture: The effect of summer schools on grade retention in Dutch secondary education: A regression discontinuity approach.
  • Dániel Horn,Tamás Hajdu and Zoltán Hermann /Institute of Economics, Centre for Economic and Regional Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences/ are visiting Politecnico di Milano on 19-22 February 2017.
  • Zoltán Hermann /Institute of Economics, Centre for Economic and Regional Studies of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences/ is visiting Maastricht University on 14-17 February 2017.
  • To enhance cooperation between different institutions of the EDEN project, Deni Mazrekaj from KU Leuven has been appointed visiting scholar at Maastricht University. Deni is undertaking collaborative research with Prof. dr. Sofie Cabus on the impact of high school dropout on labour market outcomes. Recently, both the European Union as the United States have devised plans to tackle early school leaving in the Europe 2020 strategy and the Dropout Prevention Act, respectively. Given that this topic is relatively unexplored, it is both challenging as exciting to join forces and conduct this research to attempt to aid policy-makers in understanding the consequences of high school dropout.
